Louise Condon knows how to celebrate Valentine’s Day in style. The prominent community member and realtor hosted her annual celebration for Charles River Center residents at the Village Club on Feb. 10, continuing a longtime Needham tradition of food, dancing and cheer in the wake of a historic weekend snowstorm. But, as many Needhamites will know, the party is just one of many things Condon does for the community. She has hosted community events, participated in local committees and volunteered her time for the town for decades.
“She’s a truly remarkable woman and business leader in Needham,” said Charles River Center Director of Development Maria McTernan, whose organization will be honoring Condon at its “Building a Dream” benefit gala in May. “She volunteers at our events and has generously contributed to all of our fundraising efforts.”
The Center started the gala in 1996 to raise money for expanding housing for adults with developmental disabilities, many of whom were still living at home with elderly parents, said McTernan. Today, she said the event raises crucial funds for all of the Center’s programs.
“Each year, we honor an individual at our Building a Dream benefit gala who has made a tremendous impact in the community. A prominent and respected realtor in Needham, Louise will be recognized for her valued partnership with The Charles River Center, her generosity to so many organizations and true investment in our community,” said McTernan.
Condon said she’s “privileged to have had the opportunity to support a worthy cause.”
She has lived in Needham for almost 45 years. She began giving back to the community as a room mother but quickly became involved in the local PTA group, girl scouts, St. Bartholomew’s Church, the Needham Education Foundation, the Needham Rotary, the Needham Business Association and a variety of town councils, among other activities.
Condon always aims to make her annual Valentine’s Party “a memorable affair,” she said, by bringing together the community with refreshments and entertainment. “Needham is a family oriented town. Wonderful people live here and work here. It is a great community,” said Condon.
The Charles River Center’s “Building a Dream Benefit Gala,” honoring Louise Condon, takes place on May 23, 2013 at the Boston Park Plaza hotel. All proceeds benefit programs for more than 600 children and adults with developmental disabilities at The Charles River Center.
