Mery Daniel, Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor, to Participate in 5K
The Charles River Center to Hold 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk on October 6th with Appearance by Mery Daniel, Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor
Needham, MA - The Charles River Center will hold its 3rd Annual 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk on Sunday, October 6th, 2013 at 11:00 am. This USA Track and Field-certified course begins at The Charles River Center at 59 East Militia Heights Road and loops through the scenic backroads of Wellesley and Needham.
Last year more than 500 runners and walkers participated. All abilities are welcome, and free T-shirts will be distributed to the first 300 entries. Food, drinks, raffle prizes and other festivities will round out the day’s events.
Boston Marathon bombing survivor, Mery Daniel, will participate in the event riding a specially designed bike. The wife of a longtime Charles River Center employee and mother to a five year-old daughter, Daniel lost her left leg and right calf in the bombing. A Haitian immigrant, Daniel was pursuing her medical degree when the bombing occurred last Spring.

“The Charles River Center is a great organization,” said Danielle Jensen, who participated in last year’s event. “They take care of hundreds and hundreds of wonderful people, and they need all the support they can get.”
“I have a lot of fun at the race,” said Rachel Robinson. “It’s a great time, and I love giving back to the community.”
The Charles River Center is a private, nonprofit human service agency in Needham, Massachusetts that provides employment and job training, housing, therapeutic day programs, and recreational programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Charles River serves people in Needham, Newton, Wellesley, Dedham, Westwood, Wayland, Millis, Natick, Sharon and beyond.
All event proceeds will benefit programs at The Charles River Center.
