The Charles River Center to Host 26th Annual Ellie Bloom Olympics on September 20th

Needham, MA - The Charles River Center will host the 26th annual Ellie Bloom Olympics on Saturday, September 20th at 10 am at De Fazio Park in Needham.  The event welcomes athletes of all ages and abilities to participate in track and field events such as running and wheelchair dashes, tennis/softball throws, ring tosses, relay races, and Frisbee throws. Every event is modified so that all who attempt to participate will be successful.  Athletes will receive medals for their achievement, a free t-shirt sponsored by Needham Golf Club Charities, and lunch provided by Roche Bros. and served by The Needham Women’s Club.  Over 150 athletes have participated in previous years.

The Olympics are named after Ellie Bloom, a long-time supporter of The Charles River Center.  “Ellie Bloom was a former staff member who was also the parent of a child with developmental disabilities,” said John Grugan, President of The Charles River Center.  “She was a champion of parents, with a real wealth of knowledge.”

The event is free and pre-registration is strongly encouraged.  To register or to volunteer, please contact Kelly Atkins at 781-972-1060 or or visit
