At Charles River Center, our group homes are not just houses, they are truly homes. Charles River Center owns and manages 28 residential homes for adults over age 22 with developmental and intellectual disabilities including autism and acquired brain injuries. Our community-based homes are integrated into neighborhoods within Needham, Newton, Wellesley, Natick, Wayland, Westwood, Sharon, Easton, Millis, Brockton MA. Many are recently renovated and fully accessible.
Each Charles River Center home offers a variety of supports tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident to support their daily living skills, well-being and independence. Every person served is the center of assessment and planning specific to developing their personal goals, skills and self-advocacy. Our residents are encouraged to explore their personal interests and hobbies, develop new friendships, participate in community activities as well as maintain important family relationships.
But it’s our staff that make each house a home. Each home is staffed by an experienced Program Director who supervises direct support professionals as well as nursing and clinical oversight as needed to ensure the safety and good health of each of our residents. Each home is licensed by DDS for safety and compliance with state regulations. Each home maintains required staffing ratios from 1:1 to 1:5.

In 1973, at the age of 27, Georgia Cornell came to the Charles River Center from Wrentham State School and moved into Mountain House—one of the first group homes in Massachusetts. She had been at Wrentham State School since the age of five. For forty-nine years, Georgia has called Mountain House “home.” Georgia spent many years working at the Charles River Workshop and held various jobs in the community. Now at 76, Georgia has finally “retired,” but is still attends Day Programming at the Grugan Center. Outgoing and good-natured, Georgia has always been an integral part of Mountain House and the greater community.
Help us provide spaces that individuals with disabilities can call “home.”
