Mary Giardino

It’s #teammembertuesday. Time to meet Mary, a Program Director in our Residential Services Division. Mary has been with Charles River Center since December of 2019. When she first joined CRC, Mary worked with our Family and In Home Supports team, splitting her time between a Service Navigator role and Adult Family Care. She then transitioned to her current residential position in July of 2020. Most rewarding part of her job? Working with individuals to develop strategies and coping mechanisms to manage stressful situations. For Mary, it is extremely gratifying “when you are in a situation where things are happening that tend to aggravate an individual, and just when you think things are going to blow up, they don’t, because you have been working with them so much.” She is creative in her approach and adopts techniques that are unique to each individual’s needs. For example, one of her residents often has a hard time leaving events. When she accompanied him recently to his sister’s wedding, when it was time to go, she turned his departure into a parade, which eliminated all the stress associated with having to leave.
During the pandemic, so many individuals have suffered the consequences of social isolation, the loss of routine, and the increase in uncertainty. She is really looking forward to resuming the fun, social activities (dances, bowling etc.) that her residents typically enjoy. She knows that “getting back to doing things that are positive and bring them joy, brings out the best in them.” 😊
Outside of work, Mary spends a good portion of her time hanging out with family. She especially enjoys attending sporting events. Fun fact: she rowed crew in college and tries to get back on the water as much as she can.
Thank you, Mary, for your enthusiasm and creativity. You are truly making a difference in the lives of the individuals you serve.
